Sunday Service 27 September 2020
Today we look at two practical areas of our lives. The first is to do with when we’ve been wronged. It is highly understandable that we should feel a deep sense of injustice when this happens to us and want to “make it fair” by getting our own back. . . . but this is not the Christian way.
“Do not repay evil with evil” because 1) God will be the final judge of things (and not us), and 2) because Jesus himself gives us the ultimate example as he did not retaliate when on the cross.
The second area is something that faced the church at the time – persecution. As well as the sheer hardship, this sort of attack could well have caused confusion amongst many folk young in their faith. The real answer to keeping going is to make God first in our lives and that will give us the strength and conviction to persevere. “In your hearts set apart Christ as Lord”.
