During our first Sunday services, we’ve been looking at different people who met Jesus in John’s gospel. In particular we’ve looked at the barrier each of them had and how that barrier was overcome. Earlier examples of these impediments were prejudice (“does anything good come from Nazareth?” someone wondered on hearing of Jesus) and also status (where Nicodemus overcomes the knowledge that he was a religious expert and asks a question of Jesus, who had no formal training).Today we hear of a woman who ventured out into the public arena at a time when she hoped no one else would be around. She knew she was unpopular and yet doesn’t avoid a conversation with the one man who was also there – Jesus.
