When we celebrate Pentecost and read Acts 2 we tend to focus upon the images rather than the verbs. The latter convey the powerful changes which the gift of the Holy Spirit bring about: ‘filling’, ‘seperate & rest’, ‘filled’, ‘speak’, ‘enabled’. We also tend to treat this as a historical event when, of course, the Holy Spirit is still given today, every day. In these ‘last days’ may God indeed pour out his Spirit on all people, on us, changing us, filling us… May we also be ready, prayerfully, to receive him.
