With the wall and temple built, Nehemiah and the people are about to get on with living everyday life but first they make an agreement, a promise – made by all the people to God – to follow and obey the Law of the Lord. By obeying the Law they showed that they were holy, set apart for God, living by different standards. They would all have a part to play as individuals but they make the promise collectively. They focus on three particular areas: relationships, business dealings and worship. We, too, are called to follow the law to love God and love each other. We are called to be holy, set apart for God, as individuals and collectively as the people of God. What will that look like for us in our relationships, our business dealings and our worship? Will we stand together to encourage each other to live holy lives, following God’s way?
