Into the face of this ferocious onslaught young allied troops had to jump into the shallows and wade ashore before rushing across the beach.I met one of those men who made it years later laying in hospital very ill with cancer. I was just out of the services and had spoken in the hospital ward service about prayer.The man in the bed beckoned me over with a crocked finger and said “I prayed once when I jumped out of a landing craft at Normandy……”
