The disciples waited in Jerusalem. Power, Jesus said, would come upon them but day after day they waited. On the Day of the Feast, the 50th day after Easter, they were ready with their thank offerings for the Harvest and as they sat, wind and tongues like fire sat on each of them. The power of God descended and they were filled, and the church was born. God is still building the church today through the power of the Holy Spirit. The problem is not the availability of the power but of our reticence to let God hold greater sway in our lives and in our churches than we might like.
