Last Sunday Vicar Tom stressed that Jesus concern for the multitudes came from his great compassion for them. His calling for his twelve Apostles was to go out and share the good news with the many people around them. Interestingly he gave them strict instruction not to go to certain groups but to go only to the lost house of Israel. Later others were called to go to the Gentiles and to the Samaritans but this group had a specific task. I wonder whether we dare to ask which specific group we are called to reach out to. A friend of mine in a clergy team had a calling to reach out to people with mental health troubles and God used his incredible gift of listening and understanding to help many people find healing and in some cases faith in Jesus. I did not have that same gifting so my calling was to ensure that they had a chance to meet with him and that he had the time to meet with them. As we recognise God’s great compassion for the folks around us let us listen to God’s whisper to us and sense where he is guiding us to play our part.
Pray earnestly to the Lord of the Harvest to send out more labourers into HIS harvest.
