Communion Service, Sun 30th June
A contradiction is a statement that is a complete negative of another statement. The earth is flat, the earth is round. They cannot both be true. A paradox is two statements that seem, at first sight, to be absurd but upon investigation may very well be true. So ‘light is a wave’ and ‘light is made up of particles‘, seem to be at odds but both statements can be proved true. Last week we had Peter insisting that Christians had to be obedient and this week we have a reading where Peter is happy to break the rules. Can both be true? Is it simply Peter changing his mind or is there something more fundamental going on? This is a passage that may give you something to chew on!
