The Palm Sunday reading finds Jesus and the disciples standing on the head of the Mount of Olives looking down on Jerusalem. Over to one side is the village of Bethany where Jesus stayed whenever he came to Jerusalem. He stayed with Martha, Mary and Lazarus but things have changed because Lazarus died some time ago. On that occasion, Jesus had arrived in the midst of the mourning after the burial and had upset everything by raising Lazarus from the dead. Now he arrives with his disciples and followers and sends two of the disciples into the village to bring a donkey back for him to ride down into Jerusalem. Why a donkey? And why ride down into Jerusalem where people were plotting against him?
